For reporting and dashboards, this approach works.

A delayed refresh may inconvenience a dashboard. A broken pipeline may delay a report. The consequences are rarely immediate because people remain in the loop interpreting results.

For years, this architecture served organizations well.

But it was never designed to support AI systems running continuously in production.

AI Changes the Requirements

AI systems operate under different conditions.

Models depend on continuous data flows. Applications require fresh operational signals. Intelligent agents and automated workflows rely on reliable access to data.

In these environments, interruptions matter.

As long as data systems depend on people to keep them running, AI initiatives will progress at human speed.

Organizations now have access to elastic compute, scalable storage, and globally distributed architectures capable of processing enormous data volumes.

Infrastructure scale is no longer the primary challenge.

The constraint has moved up the stack.

Today, it sits in the operational layer responsible for building, maintaining, and governing data pipelines.
